Waldorf School hosts Gatsby Gala

SANDPOINT — The 2020s will be just as roaring at a Gatsby Gala hosted by the Sandpoint Waldorf School on Saturday.

For over 20 years, the school has hosted an annual benefit auction to support educational programming at the school, including handwork, two foreign language classes, woodworking, drama, orchestra and more, Liz Moravec, Sandpoint Waldorf School 2024 auction chair, said. 

Admission tickets will include a variety of activities including games, a costume contest, dinner, a silent auction, and a live auction. This year’s meal will be provided by Eichardt’s and will include options for varying dietary needs. 

Flapper tables or speakeasy booths for eight people are also available for purchase. These tickets include features like early entry to cocktail hour, priority release for dinner, or additional drinks.  

Live auction items include multiple vacation stays, a season pass to Schweitzer, a one-minute “shop til you drop” shopping spree at Winter Ridge and a day of work from the school’s eighth-grade class among other items. Silent auction items include various themed baskets, a photography session, a coffee-tasting experience at Evans Brothers, a discovery flight, tickets to local productions and more. There are also various online auction items that can be bid on leading up to the event. 

“The event is a ‘Gatsby Gala’ therefore 1920s-inspired costumes are encouraged and the best dressed will be voted on during the auction with a prize to be awarded,” Moravec said.  “If costumes aren’t your thing, that is no problem. Come as you are for a night of fun for a good cause.”

Moravec said the school’s goal this year is not only to raise money for the school, but help strengthen and remind people that in-person events are a necessary and foundational component of a strong connected community. 

“We have been so touched by the generosity of our business owners here in the Sandpoint community,” she said. “With over 130 active 501(c)3s registered in Sandpoint these businesses and business owners have a strong commitment to supporting many events and we feel so lucky to be a part of this community — a community that understands this isn’t just about raising money for our school. It is about our small town remaining connected and putting our effort into ensuring we stay tuned in to what it needs to inspire and support the next generation of people to carry on these traditions and keep our economy strong." 

The event will take place Saturday, May 11, at The Hive at 6 p.m.
