4A DISTRICT 1-2 TRACK & FIELD: Lady Bulldogs lead after Day 1

COEUR d’ALENE — Ivy Smith won the shot put and discus, Gracie Amick the long jump and Sandpoint’s girls lead by nine and a half points after the first day of the 4A Inland Empire League district championships held at Coeur d’Alene High on Thursday.

Saige Smith picked up second place in the triple jump with a new personal best mark of 33 feet and 5 inches. Izzy Davidson was second in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet and 6 inches for the first time. The Bulldogs were second in two relays and picked up four third place finishes, which puts them comfortably ahead of both Lakeland and Moscow heading into Day 2.

For the boys, Paul Kent won the 3200 and Sandpoint’s 1600-meter sprint medley relay consisting of Isaac Schmit, Nathan Roche, Ryder Haynes, and Jett Longanecker picked up gold to lead the way. In the pole vault, Van Lee was second after tying his personal best of 11 feet and 6 inches. Isaac Vermeer (42-4 1⁄2) and Triston Tomco (40-8 1⁄2) took second and third in the shot put, respectively, both setting huge new personal bests in the process. Sandpoint’s boys are second after Day 1, just six points behind Lakeland.

The 4A Inland Empire League district championships will resume Friday at Lewiston High.
