ENRICHMENT DAY AT NORTHSIDE SCHOOL

The second annual Enrichment Day at Northside School, begun last year by Northside teacher Clara Bair, took place last Friday. Judging by the interest shown on kids’ faces, it was a grand success. The day has been received with such enthusiasm that Principal Gary Parsons admits, “we would like to do it twice a year.” The way it works is simple. The Northside School children are asked to pick out hobbies and leisure time activities they would be interested in learning. Principal Parsons narrows the list down to a workable 16, then contacts persons interested in teaching one of the hobbies or crafts. When the big day arrives, desks and chairs are pushed back to make room for such projects as macrame, candlemaking, glass cutting, archery, belt weaving, jewelry making, motorcycle mechanics, tumbling, leather crafting, and boxing. The Northside School has a good thing going. Just ask the kids.
