Floyd 'Rocky' Eveland Jr., 72

Floyd “Rocky” Eveland Jr., 72, passed away in Lawton, Okla., on March 6, 2024. Rosary and Funeral Mass were celebrated in Walters, Okla. Interment followed at the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Okla.

Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel.

Dale Coffelt will be officiating with military honors. A reception will follow at the VFW Hall.

Rocky was born in Trestle Creek on Nov. 10, 1951, the son of Floyd L. and Olive M. (Klink) Eveland. He graduated from Sandpoint High School and started his career in law enforcement with the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office. He had worked in dispatch, patrol, as a detective, and in administration prior to being elected sheriff. He had been involved in several major investigations during his tenure. He received his Bachelor of Criminal Justice from Cameron University. He also served with the U.S. Army for 36 years as a recruiter. He retired with the rank of SFC. He had married Debra J. Allen and she preceded him in death in 1997. 

He never met a stranger and would do anything to help anybody. He loved working on old cars and was a member of the Corvette Club in Oklahoma. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and a Shriner. In later years, he became active with the Knights of Columbus.

Rocky was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Eveland; his mother, Olive Marie Klink; his stepmother, Sharon Stevens; and his brother, Rinnie Eveland. 

He is survived by his wife, Nita Marie Eveland, whom he married Jan. 22, 2000; Sarah (and Jacob) Maurer of Hayden, Idaho; Blair (and Jennifer) Eveland of Spokane, Wash.; John (Trullee) James of Walters; Bari (and Brenden) Robinson of Cache, Okla.; Theo (and Leisa) James of Cache; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his sisters, Nancy (and Duke) Metcalf, Rita Stapleton, Carlotta (and Jim) Martin, and Laura (and John) Eveland; his brothers, Andy (and Tammy) Carnegie, Clayton (and Penny) Eveland, and Clinton Eveland. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
