MAYOR PROCLAIMS K & K WEEK

Sandpoint Mayor Les Brown said abandoning his official city hall office was an unexpected pleasure Tuesday as he officially proclaimed next week as Kamloops & Kokanee Week aboard a fishing craft on Lake Pend Oreille. Brown pledged the city’s full cooperation to make the celebration a success. Posing with him for photos were Hazel LaMoreaux, head of the Sandpoint Retail Merchants’ Committee and Bud Ayers, chairman of the K & K celebration.

HADLEY TO PRESENT UI RECITAL

U of I senior music major, Ted Hadley, will give a recital of his own compositions on May 8. Hadley’s compositions include “Four e.e. cummings songs;” Free Fall,” written for horn quartet; two piano suites played by Hadley; two pieces for brass trio; Hadley’s arrangement of “Silent Night,” “This is Just to Say,” three songs for mixed chorus; and “Mens Sana in Corpore Sonoris,” a choral selection with avant-guarde sounds and notation. Students assisting in the recital include Chris Cogswell, flute, Sandpoint. Choral works will be performed by the 16 voices of the 20th Century Chamber Ensemble. Hadley, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo I. Hadley, Sandpoint, will receive a bachelor of music degree in May.

May 2, 1949 – ANNOUNCE ENGAGEMENT

Mr. and Mrs. Lee R. Clemons of Caldwell, Idaho, announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Mary Margaret, to Allen Cochran, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Cochran, Sandpoint. Plans have been made for an informal wedding May 18 for immediate family at the home of the bride’s parents in Caldwell, with a reception following.

TAKER OF 25-LB. FISH TO BE LAKE MAYOR

The first angler to weigh in a Kamloops of 25 pounds or over after the 1949 Lake Pend Oreille fishing season opens Sunday, will be appointed Mayor of the lake. The combined office of mayor and official Kambassador lasts until May 1, 1950.

RODEO QUEEN CANDIDATES 

Candidates for the queen and her retinue were chosen this week for Sandpoint’s fourth annual rodeo. This is the first year an organized contest was instituted for the Kamloops City’s rodeo royalty. Vera Cargill is the Sandpoint Saddle club entry. Other candidates are: Karen Hayden, The Cheerio; Flo Bopp, Kaniksu; Charlotte Pennington, Kamloops Klub; Emmajean McGhee, Hen’s Place; Delores Shierry, Woodward’s; Donna Balch, Larson’s; Kay Kaufman, Harry’s; and Grace Peterson, the Diamond. The rodeo is set for Saturday night under the lights and Sunday afternoon, May 28 and 29.
